Liubao tea

Liubao tea is originally produced in Liubao Township, Cangwu County, Wuzhou City, Guangxi. Its raw materials are relatively coarse and old. After being steamed and pressed into bamboo baskets, it can be stored for a long time. Moreover, its quality will be better after aging during storage. It has a special betel nut aroma, the tea soup is red and thick, and the taste is aged and mellow.

After the Opium War, the political situation was turbulent. Coupled with the developed mining industry in Southeast Asia, the number of people moving southward increased sharply. According to statistics, from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century, the number of people going to Nanyang reached a peak, and the number of Chinese laborers exported exceeded 2 million.

This is especially true for the miners who went to Malaysia. The Governor of the Straits Settlements, Sir Frederick Lugard, once said that the prosperity of the Malay Peninsula, "was all created by the overseas Chinese." And Liubao tea has silently recorded all of this. Nanyang is hot and humid, and with long-term physical labor, Chinese laborers were prone to suffer from heatstroke, rheumatism, arthritis and other diseases. Liubao tea became famous during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. It is the hometown tea of people in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces, and there has always been a saying that it can relieve summer heat and dispel dampness. So, by word of mouth, Liubao tea has been welcomed by more and more miners.

Liu Junguang, the President of the Malaysian Tea Merchants Association and the fourth-generation heir of Guang Huifeng Tea Shop, also said that in the early days in Nanyang, Liubao tea was regarded as a medicine to drink. Drinking a large amount of Liubao tea every day became a daily necessity for Chinese laborers at that time.
